    Czech prevision for Defense budget in 2015: disappointment

    Czech Minister of Finance Andrej Babiš presented his State budget proposal for 2015. In spite of NATO and US warning about low Czech investment in Defense, this planned budget is envisaging further cuts for the Defense Ministry that should pass under 1% GDP. This proposal has to be endorsed by government and to be voted by Parliament. Will there be any changes for defense?

    15 ans dans l’OTAN : Point de vue d’un Français sur la défense tchèque

    Il y a peu – le 12 mars 2014 – la République tchèque fêtait le 15ème anniversaire de son entrée dans l’OTAN. Cependant, le vrai processus tchèque d’intégration dans l’Alliance atlantique débuta bien avant, en mars 1994, quand Vaclav Klaus, le Premier ministre de l’époque, signa le document d’adhésion au Partenariat pour la Paix. Avec enthousiasme, la République tchèque s’engageait ainsi à progressivement préparer ses forces à l’intégration dans une Alliance déjà vieille de 45 ans.

    The Czech Republic has a new Defense Minister

    95 days after the Parliamentary elections, President Zeman has appointed the new Czech government led by Social-Democrat Bohuslav Sobotka. The new Defense Minister is Martin Stropnický, a well-known Czech actor who was also ambassador in Portugal and Italy or even Culture Minister. The current crucial question is how long Mr. Stropnický will need to get acquainted with the various topics that need an urgent decision: lease of Gripens, law about the professional soldiers...

    Finally!!! Mr. Godot has arrived in Czech Republic. President Zeman officially appointed today a new Defense minister. It is General (retired) Vlastimil Picek, the current First Deputy Defense Minister and former CHoDS between 2007 and June 2012, whose name has been proposed on 18th March by the Prime Minister Petr Nečas.

    Czech Defense minister: waiting for Godot

    Two months after the stormy dismissal of Ms. Peake, the Czech Republic is still looking for its Defense Minister. The Prime Minister Petr Nečas, who is currently assuming the responsibility of the ministry on an interim basis, promised a nomination after the Presidential elections of January 27th.

    However on 18th February the position is still vacant. What is the current situation?
